What are Cyanobacteria?

Cyanobacteria, also known as blue-green algae, are microscopic organisms that naturally occur in freshwater, brackish, and marine environments. Like plants, they use sunlight to produce energy. In warm, nutrient-rich conditions, they can grow rapidly and form blooms that spread across the water’s surface.
