12 Leads. One Mission: Save Time

Kern County Public Health is proud to introduce “12 Leads Ahead,” a county-wide initiative that equips every Basic Life Support (BLS) response unit with modern, portable 12-lead ECG technology. This upgrade gives emergency medical crews, whether in Bakersfield or our most remote communities, the ability to perform hospital-level heart diagnostics right at the scene.

With earlier detection of heart attacks and other critical heart conditions, first responders can notify hospitals sooner, activate specialty care faster, and get patients the treatment they need without delay.

What This Means for Kern County Residents

No matter where you live, the first responders who arrive during your time of need will now carry advanced tools and training that support faster, smarter, and more precise cardiac care. From chest pain to suspected arrhythmias, time-saving vital cardiac identification begins the moment first responders arrive.

“12 Leads Ahead” represents a major step forward in how Kern County responds to cardiac emergencies. Together, we’re building a healthier, safer community.
