Kern County Public Health begins another year-long health education and awareness campaign for 2025 called Disease Fighters. Every year, thousands of Kern County residents are exposed to infectious diseases from breathing in germs and particles, eating contaminated food, touching surfaces or from the bite of a mosquito.

Public Health is at the forefront of fighting infectious diseases through a coordinated and proactive approach that includes tools such as epidemiology and surveillance, laboratory testing, food safety programs, vaccination and overall health promotion and services for children and families. Each month we will highlight an infectious disease and provide information, tools and resources on how to protect yourselves from some of Kern County’s most threatening diseases such as Valley Fever, HIV, Salmonella and West Nile virus.

We invite the community to join Public Health and become a disease fighter! Protect yourself with simple measures such as washing your hands often, avoiding insect bites, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. “Dozens of infectious diseases such as Valley Fever and Salmonella are posing significant health threats to our communities,” says Brynn Carrigan, Director of Kern County Public Health. “Our goal is to educate and empower our residents to take charge of their health and join us in fighting diseases that we are exposed to in our daily lives.”
