Matt is responsible for 400 staff and a budget of $38 million. The mission of the department is to protect the health of all Kern County residents. With 12 district offices throughout the county the department continues to effectively address the traditional issues of communicable disease, family planning, immunizations, vaccinations, and addresses current and future issues such as West Nile Virus, H1N1 (Swine) Flu, and disaster preparedness.
Matt is a graduate of California State University, Northridge, earning an undergraduate and graduate degree in Environmental Health.
Has enjoyed working for Indian Health Services, the State of California and for the last 15 years, the County of Kern.
Matt is driven and passionate about his community and his desire to make Kern County an outstanding place to live and work. Outside of work he serves on Boards with the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce and the Kern County Network for Children.
Matt is married with three children. Matt and his wife, Jennifer, are proud to be raising the 5th generation to call Bakersfield home and he enjoys trying to keep up with his active children and loves any outdoor sport or activity.
